In addition to many previously characterized XX HPV types, these three novel variants were discovered to be more XX than 10% divergent from their closest known relatives, suggesting XX that they may qualify to be considered new types. Although the XX tribes were thought to have been sexually isolated from XX non-Amerindian populations for at least 12,000 years, sequences XX closely related to these novel variants have since been detected in XX other distinct populations. The authors of [1] state that this may XX be evidence for the hypothesis that papillomavirus types evolved XX before the speciation of Homo sapiens, and consequently before the XX divergence of ethnic groups.
