The Human Papillomaviruses Compendium On Line
If you would like to have hard copy of all or part of the compendia on your shelf
for quick reference then you should download the parts you need, view them with
your Adobe Acrobat Viewer and print them to your laser printer. However, there
are advantages to using the downloaded PDF files in their electronic form:
- Acrobat Viewer has a search mechanism that allows you to search in a document for words
that might lead you to a subject of interest. For example, Part V of the compendium lists hundreds of
HPV references. Those references are searchable with Acrobat Viewer. Searches for specific nucleotide
sequences in Part I (e.g. AATAAA) will be less useful because of the way GenBank
files are formatted, with spaces and sequence numbers embedded in the file.
Nevertheless, because our GenBank files contain annotations in the sequence text you
could search for annotations such as MY09 PCR primer, or L1 cds.
- The software called Acrobat Exchange (which is not available free) allows you to write your own PDF files. You may write notes or comments into PDF documents. The annotated PDF file could then be sent to colleagues who could read your notes, questions, etc., and give you feedback.
- You can also create links between PDF documents and other files on your
computer, including other PDF documents, or other applications.
